For beginners, learning about CI flexographic printing presses can start with three simple dimensions: "Core Concepts + Key Understandings + practical applications," without getting bogged down in complicated technical details. Essentially, it is an efficient machine for printing flexible materials such as plastic sheeting and label paper. Its core strengths are speed, accuracy and stability.
1.Understanding Three Core Basic Concepts
These three concepts are prerequisites for understanding CI machines. Remember that they can help you build a basic understanding:
What does CI mean? CI stands for "Central Impression" or "central printing" in Chinese. Simply put, there was an oversized cylinder in the center of the machine around which all the printing apparatus ran. This is the fundamental difference between it and other printing presses.
What is flexographic printing? Unlike traditional offsctdrucks, the plates are made of soft rubber or resin material. Ink is rolled in a controlled amount of phenytoin sodium, then transferred to a flexible version, which is eventually imprinted on the material. The process is similar to stamping, but with greater accuracy.
What is printing? It is mainly printed on "flexible substrates," materials that can be rolled up. For example, many common soft prints such as food packaging, delivery labels, supermarket shopping bags and wallpaper are made from plastic.

Quick print: It can print 6 to10 colors at once without having to print one and then switch to another like a traditional machine. This makes it suitable for mass production, such as printing hundreds of thousands of metres of packaging film a day.
Accurate colouring: As all printing devices revolve around a large central drum, the material does not move and alignment error between colours can be controlled to within 0.1mm, resulting in a neat, clean printed image.
High Material Adaptability: no matter is thin plastic film or thick aluminum foil, can be printed smoothly, no wrinkle, no tear.
3. Environmental protection: mainly uses water-based ink or UV inks, low odor, small pollution, suitable for food packaging and other environmentally sensitive applications. Simple understanding of workflows (such as "print rows")
No need to memorize complex terminologies, simply think of it as four sequential steps:
To unroll (a large roll of plastic film, for example) from a substrate. Machine control force, so that the material is smooth, not loose and not tight.
Printing: The material is placed on a large central drum that rotates slowly. Peripheral printing units "stamp" in turn. Each unit is responsible for a specific color and each color dries immediately after printing.
Dry: After printing each color, dry and solidify the ink with hot air or UV light to prevent mixing when printing the next color.
Roll: After all colors have been printed and dried, the material is rolled into a large scroll, ready to be cut into small pieces or packaged.
